The fun stuff. Games invented out of boredom, DIY that took three times longer than planned, and cakes of questionable structural integrity.
Things we did during lockdown
2020 was an interesting year to say the least. Global pandemic, lockdowns, cancelled birthdays, holidays, lives. But we had to make the most of it. Here are some of the things I got up to.
- Lockdown Loot
Secret Santa, but every fortnight, for a fiver, until lockdown ends. Who fancies a game?
- Office space
Building a home office in the dining room out of B&Q boards, half a dining table, and a £30 bamboo screen. Reversible, mostly.
- Polar Bear Walk
Bought a random item off Amazon to spice up the daily walk. Nothing to see here, just a polar bear pushing a buggy.
- The Jam Doughnut challenge
Eat a sugared jam doughnut in 60 seconds without licking, wiping or clearing your lips. Sounds easy. It is not.
- Fuzzy Bunny challenge
Giant marshmallows, one at a time, and you have to say 'Fuzzy Bunny' after each one. Emma set the target.
- The cracker challenge
Three dry cream crackers in under 60 seconds. Emma got competitive after losing the Fuzzy Bunny. Emma failed, by the way.
My DIY handywork
When we bought this house it had been empty for a few years. It had been maintained, but never updated or improved. So, with me being all manly and stuff, I set out to make some improvements. After all, I'm a man, and men are naturally good at DIY. How difficult can it be?! (You can't tell, but I'm laughing so hard at the sarcasm in this.)
- Office space
Building a home office in the dining room out of B&Q boards, half a dining table, and a £30 bamboo screen. Reversible, mostly.
- Breaking out of the box (room) pt 2
Building a cubby hole that fit the gap perfectly, just not through the door. My 30 minute job that took the whole afternoon.
- Breaking out of the box (room)
Three joiners ghosted me, B&Q lost half my delivery twice, and then lockdown happened. Part one of extending the box room.
Normal food
Here is where we get as non-technical as possible. I'm not cooking for competition, I'm cooking to give my kids something to do other than annoy me all day. If you learn from a mistake, it ceases to be a mistake and becomes a lesson.
- Normal sponge cake
Four ingredients, one bowl, mix the life out of it. Plus why marshmallows in a cake was a stupid idea.
- Bake with mother
Emma hates my baking style, so she taught the kids to do it 'properly'. Whisk hips, bowl hats, and a cake that sank.
